Re: Re: Law professor says Catholic Identity is a question of will
by Bill Dempsey
Well, since Bishop D'Arcy, surely one of the most courageous bishops -- he gave early warning on the sexual abuse storm in Boston -- has said he thinks removing Notre Dame from the list of approved Catholic universities is inappropriate, and since funding is certain to continue, I think it self-evident that if one then concludes that the game is ended there is no warrant whatever for continuing to support, or pay any attention to, Notre Dame. It is a matter of personal judgment after careful examination of all relevant facts. Reasonable people can differ. There is no historical template, no study showing when the tipping point has been reached. Since I do not have either the competence or the command of nearly enough facts, my strong inclination is to trust to the preponderant judgment of those on site in whom I have confidence.
