Re: Notre Dame vs. Church

Bill,
An excellent treatment of a defining moment in the University's history! When Father Hesburg stated in the 1950s that the goal of the University was to become the Catholic "Harvard", his vision did not include a secularization like Harvard's.
As stated in the University's charter, the University must maintain its essential character as a Catholic institution of higher learning. That is its core raison d'etre. It is the responsibility of the Board of Trustees to remove the President when the welfare of the University requires it, as it clearly does now. It is not too late for this to happen, and the invitation to be withdrawn.
Continuing in its plans to honor a man who supports infanticide (when the aborted baby is born alive and breathing, Obama wants to deny the baby medical care so that he or she will die from neglect - his stated position as an IL Senator) is so beyond Catholicism that the University should be closed by the Congregation of the Holy Cross. Its resources can then be allocated to other Catholic causes. If the current Board of Trustees is sued by the parents and students for "falsely advertising" ND as a Catholic University, so be it.
